VOLUNTEERING

Volunteers are vital to DVACK, providing about 8,000 hours of service each year.  Volunteers help in many ways:

  • Public education presentations
  • Care for children of the women sheltered
  • Care for children while the moms attend group
  • Assist in the office
  • Serve on the organization’s committees
  • Serve on the board of directors
  • Assist with Fundraisers
  • Provide clients with support and advocacy

Volunteers can be survivors of a sexual assault who have successfully worked through issues surrounding their abuse and want to help fellow victims begin their own healing process. They can be individuals who have experienced the terror of a close friend, neighbor or loved one being assaulted. They can be individuals who are concerned with the empowerment of victims of violent crimes. Whatever the circumstances, each volunteer is a concerned individual interested in community service, with a common thread linking him or her to our agency: their desire to contribute in some way to end violence in our society.

If you would like to volunteer contact the volunteer advocate at (785) 827-5862. You will be required to complete a volunteer application. After we have received your completed application, the volunteer advocate will contact you for an informal interview.
